Woodend Primary School

Woodend Primary School is a dynamic, high-performing school with a strong culture of learning aimed at success for all. Students are supported to strive for higher standards, to manage themselves as learners and to support each other to learn. Students are taught how to learn, how to reflect on their learning, how to engage in substantive dialogue and go more deeply into learning. There is a focus on personalising and connecting learning to students’ lives by valuing prior knowledge, harnessing real-life learning experiences and using multi-modal learning.

We strive to provide meaningful and rigorous learning experiences which develop in all students intercultural understandings, multi-literacies and numeracy, creative and critical thinking, sustainability and ecological stewardship, well-being and identity. R-7 Japanese, music, drama and PE are provided by specialist teachers. We are a Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden National Program school. We wish to be building the capacity of parents and caregivers to engage most effectively in their children’s learning. There are already many great adult role models within our school community and our work is to help develop their influence and build greater confidence for all. Likewise, there are many great student role models who already support the learning of others; we wish to activate the capacity of more students to help each other learn more effectively. Our teachers are fabulous. They too, strive to better influence each other so that through team efforts we build greater learning continuity for each student.

Our vision for our students is about developing powerful learners who know how to learn; are able to think and respond to the unfamiliar with confidence and clarity; are able to critique, create and communicate; are able to make a positive difference to the lives and learning of others. We know that our vision becomes a reality through effective and sustained team efforts.
